POLICY

It's time to bring common sense back to Washington.

Policy

Military

The purpose of the military is to protect the American homeland and our interests abroad. The military is not a tool for any social or political engineering. America now faces a changing global environment with new threats that will challenge our military doctrine and operations. Over the next decade, our military will face substantial challenges keeping up with peer threats in China and Russia along with ongoing non-traditional threats. Our defense industrial complex and strategy will need to modernize and adopt new strategies to partner with the private sector to innovate and remain agile. We need to ensure our brave men and women not only have the equipment and resources they need, but also that they are adequately trained and compensated for their service and sacrifice. Additionally, our military must be allowed to operate how it is intended to - protecting freedom and American interests here and abroad. The military should not be a political experiment, or forced to be a part of the constantly-evolving woke agenda.

Policy

Environment

As Colorodans, we understand that protecting our environment is multi-faceted and often best understood by local or state communities rather than federal one-size-fits-all mandates. We need common sense environmental solutions that actually work rather than the window dressing and virtue signalling policies that exist today. We must maintain and increase our production capabilities in the United States and stop outsourcing them to countries with lower cleanliness standards and higher carbon emissions. In that vein, we must take a serious look at our global environmental policy rather than "feel good" policies. Our approach should be led by data, science, and common sense rather than tilting to the political winds of the day. We need to improve our forest management protocols so we don’t have perpetual clouds of smoke over Colorado. Importantly for Colorado, we must institute a coherent energy and water policy so we can retain and utilize our natural resources, as opposed to exporting them to other states.

Health

Even before COVID, we faced a health crisis in our nation. COVID exposed this crisis by preying on those with pre-existing conditions, many who were lower income or minorities. Our military faces a growing crisis as well with an estimated $2B per year direct expense due to obesity and malnourishment with indirect expenses estimated at ten times that amount. It’s time to address this issue head on by evaluating our supply chain and incentives for personal choices that promote individual health. Our nation’s agriculture industry is under attack with burdensome regulations which increases the cost and availability of healthy foods. Colorado has substantial production capabilities for healthy food that must be supported rather than hindered in their operations. We also should incentivise healthy choices for food and exercise as these activities assist in the overall health of our nation.

Protecting Women's Rights

Protecting women should not be a partisan issue. For the history of civilization, women have been generally treated as second-class citizens. This came from passing legislation giving women protections under the law.  Today, Biden and progressives are changing the definition of “woman” to a point where we risk having a legal definition that is unsustainable nor understandable.  This risks undercutting the entirety of legal protections America has afforded to women.

This is not a theoretical or academic problem as we have already seen it happen. With the stroke of a pen, Joe Biden undercut Title IX initiatives and set women’s rights back decades. Women’s sports are no longer protected and abused female athletes are not being protected by Washington. Eli is deeply concerned that this trend could continue in healthcare and other areas where women have earned special protections.

Notably, Eli gained a national profile by working to overhaul the Olympic system in the wake of the now-convicted Dr. Larry Nassar scandal to protect current and future athletes. Colorado’s current senator, the Chairman of the Olympic Caucus, failed to act and did not protect women.

Guns

Eli shot a gun in the Olympics. He views guns as a piece of equipment that should be respected and understood as powerful tools. He supports proper training and education around guns and their usage.

Economy

Eli earned his BS in Economics from the US Air Force Academy. He is a strong believer in the power of capitalism and free markets. Eli’s sports and business ventures have taken him around the globe giving him a profound appreciation for the system we enjoy in America. He believes in protecting private property and supports sound fiscal governance and policies. Taxes should be kept low and government expenses should as well. Monopolies are a rare area of the market that he believes need regulation to ensure that proper competition exists in the marketplace.

Social Media

Social Media platforms are tearing our nation apart. They have come to be used as information platforms vital to our communications systems in both the government and private sector, yet they have no oversight and routinely attempt to “tip the scales” inappropriately. As a nation, we need to address the sickness caused by social media and create a cohesive strategy around how these platforms are operating in America.

Policy

Immigration

Immigration is important to our nation and can serve to strengthen our society. However, we have no coherent policy around immigration in America today. We must stop unbridled illegal border crossings and instead create a process that allows those who possess skills or abilities and a desire to be a productive part of the American dream to come legally. Notably, Eli has personally assisted with the immigration of individuals to the US and who are now working in support of our military.

Policy

Israel

I am dedicated to strengthening and broadening our country’s relationship with Israel. As a great ally and friend to the U.S., Israel deserves the support it needs to ensure that it can always defend itself, by itself. In trade, intelligence, defense, and economic cooperation, the U.S. and Israel are two nations that both benefit greatly from a significant and meaningful partnership.

Congress must continue to ensure Israel – which faces a constant threat of attack – always has the means to defend itself and its people. I support full funding of the U.S. commitment to support Israel’s security:  $3.3 billion in security assistance and $500 million in cooperative missile defense funding.  America must reliably provide this support—without new political conditions,  not only because it is in our ally’s interest, but because it is in ours, as well.

The U.S.-Israel relationship benefited greatly from the policies of the Donald Trump’s Administration, who was the most pro-Israel president in history.  As President, President Trump consistently supported Israel and took steps to promote a broader peace in the Middle East.   In the face of strong opposition, he kept one of his early campaign promises by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. He acknowledged Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and made clear to all nations that the Israeli settlements in the West Bank are not inconsistent with international law. Trump withdrew the United States from the United Nations Human Rights Council because of the group’s blatant anti-Israel bias, and his Administration consistently stood with Israel when it faced attacks at the U.N.  Finally, he successfully negotiated the Abraham Accords, which resulted in peace agreements between Israel and four Arab countries.  There is still work to do to strengthen the relationship further, but the accomplishments of the Trump Administration were all positive steps toward guaranteeing the safety and sovereignty of Israel.

In light of the  U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, having a reliable ally like Israel in a dangerous region of the world is more important than ever. And it is important that in this strategic partnership, we do not undermine Israel’s security. I believe a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians must be reached through direction negotiations between the two parties—not imposed from the outside—and that Israel’s security must be ensured.  Israel should never be pressured to make compromises that endanger its security or hand strategically important resources over to untrustworthy and aggressive actors.

As the next Senator of Colorado, I will ensure the United States continues to strengthen its relationship with Israel. I look forward to meeting with supporters of our relationship with Israel from across the state of Colorado and across the U.S.
